This album quite took my fancy when I saw it on the shelf. Kitty, Daisy and Lewis would appear to be siblings - and young siblings at that - with a thing for that old time rock 'n' roll music. I have a fondness for the old ways myself. Moreover, they record their music in that old fashioned analogue way too having assembled their own studio from a selection of old analogue equipment. Not late model Otari multitracks either but antique shop Ampex kit. Sounds good to me.

The reason for this longhand approach to recording? It would seem that they wish to capture that authentic sound. Certainly the track listing would support that assertion with standards like "I Got My Mojo Working" and "Going up the Country" both making an appearance on this album. All in all, this is a very likeable collection of songs anyway and the recording does indeed have that analogue warmth. Of course, I am listening to it the old fashioned way as well - on vinyl. It seemed like the best approach.

Oddly enough - especially given that Kitty, Daisy and Lewis appear to be related - there is little in the way of harmonies on show. I kind of like harmonies and they would not have been out of place either as would a more adventurous choice of material. Nonetheless, I enjoyed this album as it has a simplicity and honesty missing from much of today's' music. Recording wise, there is a distinct raw edge to the sound but that does add to its charm.

It's good to know that not everyone these days wants to be a depressing singer songwriter or a Saturday evening superstar and Kitty, Daisy and Lewis have clearly stayed true to their ideals. From the album sleeve - "For maximum enjoyment we recommended that you turn the volume up as loud as possible". Sounded like a plan to me. So I did.
