Having dug out a copy of The Nun's "Rumania" album from the Bluesbunny Vinyl Vault recently, our curiosity was further piqued.  Perhaps there was more by the band in there and indeed there was. The Nun's first album was (and probably still is) something of a collectable item reflecting as it does the west coast punk sound of the time.

I remember why this album got bought - the delightful presence of singer Jennifer Miro (OK, so I'm shallow…) but my memory of the album was that the band was some sort of sub Blondie act. On listening to it once again, this proved not to be the case. In fact, the gothic, s&m type influences so evident in their current incarnation do pervade quite a few of the songs. Sure, there is maxed out stuff as well with "Media Control"  and "World War III" kicking the walls down just like a good punk band with a social conscience should and there is an eminently commercial sub Blondie track in there called "Wild" but it is actually the only one. Funny how the memory plays tricks.

Doing a bit of research on the current incarnation of the band, I noticed that Jennifer Miro's bosom was rather more noticeable than the publicity stills from the time of this release show (told you I was shallow). Everything comes to she who waits?

The album got reissued on compact disc by Get Back Records in 2005 (as GET113) but the sound quality is still less than wonderful. Nonetheless, if you can't track down the vinyl version then get the compact disc as it is still an interesting album from a time when the music business was a very different animal than it is today.
