Another day, another review. Escaping from the jiffy bag this time is Deeyana's new single "Keep Pushing On". Go on, surprise me!
Oh no you won't, actually. Deeyana has a fine voice in the Leona Lewis mould and is apparently a saxophonist to trade but, despite that, she takes no chances here at all. Identikit arrangements and production and the less than inspired lyrics make her sound just like any of a hundred singers in the "urban" genre.
That's a bit of a shame as I don't doubt that she has talent but she needs better songs and needs to show some more imagination if she is to stand out from the crowd. No doubt this smooth sounding song will go down well with the kind of people who drive high end Subarus (is there such a thing as a high end Subaru?). On the flipside, the instrumental "Goddess Nyx" likewise shows all the inventiveness and energy of, say, Kenny G.
Hell, she'll probably go and win X Factor or something now.
