"Stories Told" is album number two from San Francisco based singer songwriter Andy Mason.
Infused with the soul of a sixties' protest singer and seasoned with old time country music, he delivers his message in songs that stand out from the crowd. There are elements of redemption in the opening song "Bridge to Panama" and "Dark Eyed Junco" evoked memories of Woody Guthrie. "Glowin' Ember" could easily become a truck driver's favourite as they bowl along the Oklahoma highway and there's even a nice slice of sentimentality on show in "Grandfather's Eyes". No problems with the songs then.
The only drawback here is his voice. Whilst individuality is to be prized, his voice sounds less like an original than an impersonation of the many great singer songwriters that have gone before him. Maybe he just needs to trust his own talent more?
Anyway, a man who wears a white hat can't be bad, can he?
