Sunshine at this time of night? - it's just not natural. In fact, it's enough to drive a man to drink. Of course, you have to pretend that it isn't actually the drink so you come up with a valid excuse to go into a pub. Something like doing a live music review. Remembering that Chris Blair hosts such an event at Lebowskis on Argyle Street, Bluesbunny set course and speed.
After Chris Blair had warmed up the audience with a few of his own songs, he introduced James Dickerson. There's a common theme here, by the way, as all the performers tonight fell into the "one man and a guitar" category. Our Mr Dickerson mixed up angst and anger with some style and "Ghosts Catch Fire" stood out from the rest of his set.
Next up was a Glasgow stalwart Alexander Murray. Any man who takes to the stage with two pints of Guinness is likely to gain the Bluesbunny seal of approval. Indeed that was the case and tonight he ran through some of his slower, more reflective songs like "Made of Stone" and "Smile". Seasoned by a long apprenticeship on the circuit, he never fails to deliver the goods.
Last on was Iain McKinnon. Now here was another class act. Giving a very polished performance, he made it all look easy. So easy that you might well miss the fact that it is actually far from easy to do what he does as he brings his experiences into his lyrics and mixes them up with undeniable musical dexterity. Songs like "Santiago" perfectly illustrate the point. Like we said, this man is class.
It's a regular thing at Lebowskis so drop by sometime. Anyway, they have Caledonian 80/- on draught so there's another reason…
