Hercules Mandarin, Journeybox and Anna Meldrum live at King Tuts in Glasgow

It's Saturday night in Glasgow and there are many things that a man could possibly do. Maybe catch some live music from Hercules Mandarin, Journeybox and Anna Meldrum? Hell, that's what a Bluesbunny does!

Anna Meldrum took to the stage first. She's got a guitar and a sweet voice and she used them to good effect on some melodic songs. An earnest performer, she should surely make many new friends amongst people who like "Friends".

Journeybox are a band that I hadn't seen in quite a while. With the addition of a bass player - who looked suspiciously like the bass player in a band called Salon Society I saw recently - they delivered a set of catchy electro pop tempered with a strong melancholy undercurrent. The murky sound obscured Pete and Kari's harmonies - as is so often the case at this venue - but, nonetheless, it was clear that Journeybox are a band that deserves your attention.

The main event of the evening was Hercules Mandarin of course. Using the evening to launch their new album "Fast Behind the Times", they gave the audience spirited renditions of songs from this album - "Always Never" was pure class - to complement their existing live favourites. You just can't argue with the exuberance and musical ability of this band. That exuberance even overcame the truly miserable sound and the large crowd dragged them back for a well deserved encore. Hercules Mandarin are one of the best bands in Glasgow. There's no doubt about that.

Time for chicken pakora said Zebedee. It surely was.
