Ready2Fall, Ramon Ruiz, Mellifluous live at Cosmopol in Clydebank

It's Friday night once again. Usually that means drinking through 'til Saturday. Not tonight as this Bluesbunny forgot his bank card. Nonetheless, there was music to be heard, so Bluesbunny Ryan and myself made our way down to Cosmopol, Clydebank. It was more of an amble than a hop.

The first act we caught went by the name of Ramon Ruiz. Armed only with his guitar, his voice, and a bag of songs, there was a pleasant depth to his set. Already a staple of the Glasgow music scene, Ramon Ruiz showed with his enjoyable set tonight just why his name will be seen more and more not just in Glasgow but beyond.

Glasgow rockers Mellifluous sent the decibel count up a few notches, with their emotionally fuelled brand of power-pop. Experience seems to once again to be key, with the band seeming at ease onstage. Front man Andrew Ferguson has a stage persona that is just the right side of annoying and his charisma goes some way to relate to the band's "angry teen" fanbase. This band seems to be heading in the right direction. They have the attitude, they have the sound. They even have the haircuts.

And so came the final act of the evening, Ready2Fall. Much to everyone's delight, the passion and the instrumental ability of the band was evident from the get-go. The sandy haired lead singer's vocal displayed a lot of emotion and when you complement that with measured guitar solos and a reliable rhythm section, you tend to find a band that is on the right track and there was little doubting why people had remained in the venue. All in all, Ready2Fall put in a performance that more than justified their headline billing. Check them out.

A fine evening indeed. Not often that you get offered food while at a show. Who said there's no such thing as a free meal?
