Inner Sight and The Gazettas live at The Buff Club in Glasgow

Someone on a piano plays the theme from Eastenders. They play it badly. Grey suits with laptops are everywhere. It's enough to make any sane man think of revolution. Time to go up the ladder to the roof. Or up the stairs to the Buff Club but it is hard to avoid the temptation to bring the Supremes into the review.

There's a bit of as delay so I might as well do the fashion bit. There's a good few check shirts on show. The sort that a gay lumberjack might wear. There are leopard print shoes too. They have a certain appeal though. Unfortunately, no blonde wears ribbons in her hair. The Buff Club is a classy joint even if it has flock wallpaper.

The Gazettas fire up their music. They make plenty of noise but they also clearly know what a melody is. People remember melodies so that's a good thing. Memories of the Small Faces and even the Jam flow back to me as this band power through their set. Despite the odd composition of the crowd, the Gazettas turn heads. Maybe it is the songs. Those songs don't take the direct route from A to B. No, they turn themselves like a corkscrew bringing red, red wine into your life.

Inner Sight round things off. They are a bit retro but that look astern is tempered with modern power pop sensibilities. It's good to hear songs with hooks and it's also good to hear those boy-girl harmonies and big guitars. The up-tempo songs work best with the intense "Tormented Dreams" heading right over the top into my arms.

Time to go. Time to experience a Glasgow institution. Time for some chips from the Blue Lagoon. I fear cholesterol not one bit.
