Already Gone, The Curious Dave Clarke Collective, Broken Trees live at Pivo Pivo in Glasgow

There I was thinking that the metadata needed cleaning up. I'm not sure why I was thinking that when there were clearly better things to think about. Things like Krispy Kreme doughnuts or why there are so few recipes for cooking cats on the Internet.

Sensing my drift from reality, she telepathically suggested that I should follow her azure eyes to the stage and pay attention to The Curious Dave Clarke Collective. Featuring Dave Clarke on the keyboards, this seven strong band clearly extolled the virtues of hard work as they unfolded their Ben Folds style melodic complexity and quirky lyrical sensibilities for our musical enjoyment. Just the kind of outfit to make a man think of supper clubs and other civilised past midnight pursuits.

Visiting this no mean city from Stoke-on-Trent were Already Gone and, with customary Glasgow hospitality on show, they didn't have to wait long before someone in the audience shouted out that the singer of this rock band looked like a ginger Bon Jovi. Moments like that are to be treasured and, to his credit, said ginger Bon Jovi didn't let that put him off and, with the rest of the band, promptly romped with polished ease through a set of the kind of slick and catchy rock songs that would sound right at home in anyone's car. Clearly determined to build grassroots support – and likely to do so with songs like "Sweet Lady Jane" and "Cry Baby" – they deserve to succeed.

More hard edged rock only this time with post punk sensibilities came from the Broken Trees. Raucous was the word of the day for this band with more energy than precision evident and , though they inflicted a painful death on their choice of covers, their own material actually stood up quite well in comparison.

She even knows things that you didn't even know you needed to know. For example, you can actually make cocktails – real cocktails too, not just four in the morning what have we got left to drink cocktails - with Guinness such as The Irish Carbomb, Purple Velvet and Highland Ghost.  I need to get a bigger head to store all this new knowledge.
